We were in town today so we stopped at the farmer’s market on our way home. What a great surprise! One vendor had this huge bucket of spectacular heliconias for sale. He’s my favorite vendor anyway because he has the best pineapples, but today there was no question of shopping anywhere else.
Wouldn’t you know, I didn’t have my camera with me. It was home charging on my desk and I forgot to put it back in my purse. I broke my own very important rule, and you know that moment when you don’t have your camera, that is when you will see something.
But, I have the flowers! The pink one I recognize as “Sexy Pink” because it is my very favorite. I tried unsuccessfully to grow it in Florida. I’m not sure what the other is but it is also gorgeous. These are the largest heliconias I have ever seen!
Look at the size of these! They almost go to the ceiling.

Oh no, don’t encourage me! LOL I am already looking at them and thinking – I could just paint them on the wall. These walls need something… I wonder where they sell paint. You should have seen my FL house. It wouldn’t be the first time I’ve done this sort of thing

i have bought acrylic paints in David before. i asked at a little tienda which pointed me to anotehr store which pointed me to another, and finally i found a fairly decent store with art supplies!

We need to go downtown, and anything can happen downtown. If nothing else, I can use wall paint. I saw someone in Do-It center buying 1/2 quart of wall paint, 1/2 quart of color tinted wall paint! They have little containers just for that purpose. They wouldn’t do that for you in the US.

They grow in tropical climates, but maybe you could find some in flower shops. Smaller ones are sometimes sold in exotic flower arrangements.

I’ve never heard of these. At first when you said you bought them at the fruit stand I thought they might be edible. But they’re not.

No, they are not edible, which was one reason I was so surprised to see them at the produce market. There are many varieties of heliconias from small to huge. Some stand up like the red one, and some have hanging flowers like the pink one.
