Pedasi and Isla Iguana

We just finished a short but wonderful visit to Pedasi with indacampo and her SU. Holly hadn’t met our blogger friends, and we all had a wonderful time talking and laughing, and spending time together without computer screens between us.

One of the highlights of the visit was an afternoon at Isla Iguana, a gorgeous nature preserve island just a short boat trip away. Of course there are photos!

There were almost no people on the Island so the iguanas were everywhere!

I was checking out the driftwood and rocks and almost didn’t see this big fellow right at my feet
There were hermit crabs everywhere. A lot of them were gathered by these rocks

This tree had the most interesting orange bark
As we were walking to the other side of the island, we spotted this huge red crab in the underbrush.
The frigate bird were nesting in this area. There was a crowd of them flying overhead.
This quick little crab wasn’t happy when I got between him and the water but I could resist getting a couple photos.
It’s much more rocky on the other side of the island, but also really beautiful

I don’t think there is anywhere in Panama without amazing trees

There were lots of coconut trees on this part of the path
It’s lovely walking through the shade of the trees

I am the biggest most handsome fellow on the island!

We were just talking about how hard it was to spot these beautiful little birds, and this one landed right next to us just long enough to snap a couple photos

The seagulls and pelicans hang out on the beach
Our boat captain Edwin (white shirt) brings our boat back to shore with the help of a couple waiting assistants. Once we were out of the boat, they tied it to a rope from a truck up above and dragged it up on the sand.

I’m still learning my way around this new iPad. Editing photos has been .. Ahem .. Interesting.  The software I planned to use didn’t work out but now I have a process that works for me. Some of the things I take for granted on my computer aren’t here, but this iPad sure is light and easy to travel with. I’m sure as I get more familiar with it things will go a bit faster.

    Interesting, now I have to google to find out what they eat, must be plentiful, since the island supports so many of them.

      I believe they eat plants and fruit. I didn’t see much fruit but there are plants, and also people who give them handouts so they are much less shy than any other iguanas I’ve seen before.

    Great Photos per the Norm. I’m still trying to maneuver between Windows 8, edition update 3 and the wife’s I-Pad. I use a non smart cell phone, text, call and send the occasional photo is the norm,. I’m Not sure that I like apps. The concept is good but I can’t imagine using my phone for all computing needs as I know some do. I can see that smart phone mastery would be a Big plus for me in Panama.

      Thanks 🙂 I am one of the few without a smart phone but it would be useful here for communication and for finding things. But the iPad has most of that functionality too.

    Hi Kris. We have plenty of them in St. Lucia. The first setters here were the Arawak Indians from South America and called this island Hewanorra which means island of the iguanas. Finally the
    Carib Indians conquered the island. They killed all males and took their woman. Later after the French abolished slavery, the local ex slaves eliminated almost all Caribs.This island has quite a violent history as it changed hands 14 times between the French and the British. Finally admiral Rodney beat the French fleet in the battle of the saints out of Pigeon Island which is located opposite the Rodney Bay Marina. Our local rum is called Bounty and the expensive blue label Admiral Rodney.

    My husband Al and I are thinking Pedasi will be our landing spot when we get there later this year. Even if we don’t win the month in Coronado with IL we’ll be there later this year. Looks awesome!
