Living Your Dreams

As far as I know you only get one shot at this life. What do you want to do with it? What are your dreams? What do you want to experience? What do you want to accomplish?

As the years go by I feel more drive to live my dreams. Who knows how much more time there is? I appreciate the people who have supported my move to Panama, my travels, my bike trips, and the other sometimes unconventional activities I have undertaken.

Richard is one of these friends. He has always encouraged me and followed my activities with much enthusiasm. Richard also has dreams of his own. His health problems make it advisable to return to the US but he is in no way giving up his dreams of living life to the fullest.

Richard’s dream is life on a boat traveling the rivers of the US, making his way down to the Gulf of Mexico and along the golf coast. Consider that Richard is 74 years old, has COPD, heart trouble, and some painful joints. All this would make put a lesser person in their rocking chair, but not Richard. What an inspiration!

Richard is on a limited income though and needs some material support to make this happen. He has a boat, but he needs gear and supplies. Check out his GoFundMe page for details and to get involved.

If each of you, all my good hearted readers, would give even a few dollars, the price of a coffee or a burger, this epic dream could become a reality. What would  this mean not only for Richard, but for all those other people who think their lives are over because they have medical problems. There is no better medicine than a dream, an inspiration, and the will to live! Let’s help Richard be this inspiration.

    Hola Kris,
    We just watched “The Oldest People in the World” on FireTV. It was filmed in 2007 and reported on folks over 100 in several countries. A couple of the folks were STILL working part time. Many were still active even if using walkers or canes. One lady had a daily workout routine!

    All of them stated the same things when asked about why they thought they had lived so long: attitude and a sense of humor. One centenarian who cleaned windshields in the morning spent the afternoon in the pub having a pint and smoking cigarettes. He was flirting with the female interviewer while answering her questions! Haha Another lady interviewed has a glass of sherry every afternoon. It was a fascinating show.

    Life is what you make it. Don’t sweat the small stuff and keep moving forward.

    I hope Richard takes lots of photos and posts them, I grew up in Missouri on the river, my mom’s family had relatives working on the river for years.

    • I saw that documentary or one like it and it really struck home with me. I used to order my patients to do something fun every single day – get out of the house, call a friend or neighbor, go to the senior center, volunteer to help someone, something, anything to keep involved with life. We don’t give our minds and attitudes near enough credit for our physical health. Too many of our seniors are isolated and alone and that is very bad for them. This is a big reason Richard needs to do his thing. The physical activity and emotional satisfaction will do a lot to maintain his health.
