One day there are cows wandering down the road.
Another day it’s a horse in the road
You reach for a cooking utensil and find a baby lizard sleeping on one.
A tiny but very cool bug visits you on your outside table one night.
Another night, you find this interesting spider on your table fan.
You are at a restaurant and there is a dog wandering around. The owner said he’s been hanging out for a few days but nobody knows where he came from.
You are on your terrace at night and the cocelecas start singing in the neighbor’s yard (nothing to see, but turn up your sound)
You come out for breakfast and the parrots are going nuts in the tree overhead. You can only see a couple of them but it sounds like there are many! (look closely in the middle of the frame and you can see the silhouette of a couple of them walking along the branches)
Just a few things from the last few days here. We’ve been busy with the usual activities, and I have a new project underway. It’s taking up all my free time lately but hopefully will bear fruit in a few months. Meanwhile I always enjoy the little things that keep life interesting.
Also, the dog is doing really well. She even jumped up on the couch yesterday so she is feeling much more comfortable. (She’s been here three weeks now.) She continues to be very loving with us and very confrontational with anyone outside the fence. Good dog, well done.
The Panama Adventure 
The lizard was just about the cutest thing! And the cows look like they are in really good condition. I’m not sure if i’m making myself look like an idiot but when we went to Mexico, the cows all looked super sick and VERY skinny. I wasn’t sure if it was like that everywhere…

I wonder if my enthusiasm for critters is starting to rub off on you. I didn’t think you would be in favor of lizards in the kitchen utensils.
We were in Nicaragua once when they had just ended a big drought and the cows looked bad. Here in our part of Panama they seem to do better. We have less severe dry summers, and now it’s the green rainy season and we need more cows to keep the vegetation in check!

I think I liked the lizard because it was so cute and tiny! Those aren’t as scary as the yucky spiders and bugs 🙂

Ahh ok, the babies are very tiny and cute. How about squirrels? They are furry and cute, and here they are black. There are three of them in the neighbor’s tree right now feasting on avocados. They don’t know what to do with nuts, but give them fruit and they are really happy.

I love squirrels! They are all over my college campus and I throw them bread whenever I have the chance! Those little guys will come right up to you and beg for food!

I’ve spent some time on Ometepe Island where pretty much all the animals roam where they please, and there are more interesting bugs and critters everywhere. I hope to come back and explore more of the country!

I am shaking from laughter, trying to type. Nena’s house in Los Cabezos had all those things plus chickens who darted into the kitchen to snatch crumbs off the floor. Mima had a habit of tossing crumbs to her beloved chickens, they were more like pets than livestock. They did keep the lizard population in check.
Our neighborhood is in the city, but borders on a large park. The whole area was once ranch land. We have seen coyotes, skunks, opossums, lizards, snakes, spiders, and dozens of kinds of birds from our back yard. I guess that’s why they call it the “Wild West”. Fort Worth still does the cattle drive downtown with long horn steers for the tourists. Dallas is the big city, Fort Worth is still Cowtown. Ha

Here the cattle drive is usually when they found their way out of their fence, or someone is moving them from one pasture to another. The tourists just grumble about the delay. We have coyotes too. I have heard them but not seen them. I haven’t see skunks either, but the other critters are here. We must have porcupines too, judging by the predicament of the neighbor’s dog one time. I could have chickens but it’s much easier to buy them from a farmer. My friend had some and they were a lot of work and tore up her yard. I also love living on the edge of town next to the woods because of all the wildlife that visits us.

That isn’t our dog, just one that was wandering around a restaurant in Boquete. https://blog.thepanamaadventure.com/2017/06/13/life-with-a-dog/ Thats our dog and she is settling in and working out very well. I have always kept the couch covered to protect it from us so adding a dog to the family isn’t a problem. We don’t let her off the property to visit restaurants though 😀
