Sunday at the Bar

This bar is on the Pan-American highway, not far from the Via Boquete overpass. It’s my favorite place to cross the highway on my bike, so I pass it often. Sometimes on Sunday mornings it’s a rockin place with music blaring and people having fun. Today, it was quieter with only a few guys enjoying their beer. But, it’s unusual to see a horse parked outside.

I usually feel a bit uncomfortable pointing a camera at someone, but often the Panamanians are delighted that you want a photo of them and they are happy to pose. This guy stood proudly by his horse with his most dignified expression on his face.

The owner of the horse had been talking to a couple guys seated at a table inside. They each had a number of beer bottles in from of them, and they assured me that the horse also was getting his share.

It’s fun living here. You never know what you will see or who you will end up talking to.

How can you not love a place where horses are still a legitimate form of transportation?

True I love it here, just real take it as it is. People are enjoying still the real normal life. No Pokemon nonsense chasing a virtual object. I still remember the 60s when we had limited tv, a lot of life music and enjoy ourselves with friends and little gadgets.

  3. Nice! Glad to hear the horse got his share of beer too (I’ve read that horses do love beer).
Also – wouldn’t it be grand to live somewhere where your main (or only) form of transport is a horse.

    • I think they were joking with me about giving the horse beer. But, who knows for sure?
The horses here are rather small, and I’m rather big so I don’t want to inflict myself on a horse. The bike works for me though.

Oh my! Funny! The horse was getting his share. Hmmm…..That might make for a funny picture when they’re ready to go home. LOL

  7. I love it. I think it’s funny how you can see the KFC sign in the background. I would choose a panamanian restaurant over KFC any day. As for the beer and horse, the Japanese feed their Kobe beef cows beer. And they get massages too! Thanks for sharing!

    • KFC is really popular here and in the evenings cars are spilling out of the parking lot. They have another restaurant on the other side of town, and you see their motorcycles frequently around town making home deliveries. We also have McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Dominoes, Dairy Queen, TGI Fridays, Subway and probably others I’ve forgotten to mention. I never ate fast food in the US and I’m not about to start here.
Beef doesn’t get any beer or massages here. It’s all grass fed in open fields and not aged and the expats complain that it’s tough. It has a great flavor though for soups, stews, and other things that go in a pressure cooker. I doubt anyone would spring for beer for a horse either, and they definitely would have heart failure at the price of Kobe beef!
