We are back in Panama but I had one more set of photos I wanted to share. This is another well known area of Ometepe Island, and with good reason. It was absolutely beautiful, and there are also howler monkeys that live in that area. It is on the south side of the island within reasonable biking distance from Moyogalpa. As you will see, we had a perfect, sunny day to go explore this area.
The area is beautiful, and there are many plants and flowers at the entrance to the park.
We find the lagoon
There are some amazing trees!
Thunderheads loom over the lagoon
The pathways are pretty and well maintained. It is possible to bike on most of them.
There was a fairly large family, and they were crossing through the trees right above us.
mom and baby
we saw two moms and babies
A number of them stopped and stared at us for a little while.
Another mom and baby
The beach was also beautiful
Another great tree
Joel checks the sand for treasures.
A beach, clouds, and a volcano!
The paths go through beautiful jungles
Check out this tree! It says don’t write on the bark, but many obviously didn’t heed it.
a huge tree!
leaving the park, there is a beautiful view of the volcano.
This little girl was going home from school. When I asked if I could take a photo she dissolved into giggles.

Picture of me and a tree, (no, I’m not IN the tree, that’s a monkey!).
Loved the area, will be returning to Nicaragua soon!!!
The pics are great.
Oh, Kris! You take such stunning photos. We can’t wait to meet you in person!
Thanks! It’s hard to miss in a beautiful setting like that though.
That little girl is absolutely adorable. What a fun hike that must’ve been… great pictures, thanks for posting the monkeys for all to see!! Can’t wait to see them for myself 🙂
Are you going there? It is such a beautiful place, and the children are all so adorable. Glad you enjoyed the post 🙂
Yep, we plan on visiting the island! Since we’ll be in the Granada/Managua area for about 5 days I think we’ll check it out! Still need to iron out the details, of course.
Excellent! Did I send you to the blog of my friend there? http://retirenicaragua.wordpress.com/ Also, if you want a real experience check out Puesta del Sol. They put you up in a home of one of the locals. I have a post in the works.
Yes I followed her blog :). I’ve been browsing her posts! I’ll have to leave a comment here and there so she doesn’t think I’m just a silent stalker ;). That Puesta del Sol sounds pretty awesome. I’ll look forward to your post on that and I will look it up on the interweb in the meantime! Great suggestion.
We all have tons of silent stalkers and only a few who comment so don’t worry about it. 😀 But you should meet her if you go to Ometepe.
